Navy & Yellow Reversible Sukajan
Souvenir jackets or more famously know as Sukajan (suka referring to the US navy base in Yokosuka Japan and Jan meaning jacket) Trace their roots back to WWII when the American troops stationed in the pacific wanted "memories" or souvenirs of their oriental adventures to bring back home to mainland. It has sort of become a solidarity uniform. Historically within Japan the image of the sukajan remains close to the noisy club of yankis, biker boys gangstas, yakuza flicks of the 1960s. Meanwhile, outside Japan, the sukajan, like Japanese tattoos are highly regarded within the art scene and has been slowly absorbed and instituted by many high-fashion designs and labels, stomping the catwalks of Milan, Paris and New York. To name a few - Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Kate Moss, YSL are just some of those entities taking a cue from this mix of American and Japanese subculture.
